It is that time of year, and there is an Easter Egg hunt in almost every town in the DC Metro area.  Here is a list of many of the hunts, sorted by date.  Let me know if I missed any….

Easter Eggstravaganza- Saturday March 20, 12, 12:45, 1:30, 2:15

Frying Pan Park, Herndon, VA – There is an egg hunt and intro to friendly farm animals at Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center.  Cost is $6 per child. To make a reservation, call 703-437-9101.


Sully Historic Site Easter Egg Hunt, March 20, 1-3pm
Chantilly, VA- For kids ages 3-7 yrs.  Easter egg  hunt for filled Easter eggs in Sully’s fields.  Kids can also participate in an egg roll as they may have done at the Capitol when James Madison was president.  Create an Easter craft to take home and enjoy yummy treats.  The egg hunts at 1:30 and 2:30pm. Reservations required. Rain date 3/27. $5/child


15th Annual Bunnyland- March 27, 28, April 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 & 11, 2010 (closed Easter Sunday)
Butler’s Orchard, Germantown MD- Take a hayride down the Bunny Trail, hunt for Easter eggs, enjoy face painting & crafts, Rubber Ducky Derby, ride ponies, giant slides, and tractors, see bunnies, lambs and chicks, and enjoy food and family activities.  $8 per child and $6 per adult. • Open 9am until 3:00pm each day.


Great Country Farms Marshmallow Harvest & Egg Hunt, March 27, 1-2:30pm

Travel to Great Country Farms for an egg hunt, train rides, marshmallow roasting, Marshmallow Peep Maze, and a hayride.  There will be 3 egg hunts this year with over 5000 eggs: 1pm ~ Children 3 and under…….1:30pm ~  children  4-6 years…….2pm ~ children 7-10 years

Reston Community Center Eggnormous Egg Hunt, March 27, 10:00am-11:30 am
Temporary Road Picnic Pavilion, Reston, VA- The egg hunt starts at 10:30 a.m. sharp.  There will be carnival games, a moonbounce, and a “human statue”.

Easter Egg Hunt at Ida Lee Park, March 27, 2010, from 12 – 4pm

Ida Lee Park, Leesburg, Virginia- Annual Easter Egg Hunt with 15,000 eggs hidden throughout Ida Lee Park. For children 7 and under. There are also candy filled eggs, prizes, and entertainment. Admission is $10 per child in advance and $12 at the gate. (703) 777-1368.


Herndon Aqua Easter egg Hunt, March 27, 1pm

Herndon Community Center Pool- An Easter Egg hunt in the pool! Some will be floating and some will be on the bottom. Collect as many eggs as you can and redeem for prizes. Mesh bags provided to collect eggs.  Pre-registration preferred but you can register up until 15 minutes prior to the hunt on day of the event. $10-includes one parent and one child


Fabergé Egg Family Festival, March 27  10am-7pm & March 28 1-5pm

Hillwood Estate, Washington, DC- A Russian style festival.  You can meet historical characters Tsar Nicholas II and Peter Carl Fabergé, and listen to folk music and storytelling, as well as take part in an egg-rolling game.  Added bonus- decorate your own Fabergé-inspired egg.  $12 adults, $5 ages 6–18, free kids under age 6


Del Ray Easter Egg Hunt, March 28, 11-12:30pm

The Easter Bunny is coming to Del Ray on the block of Mt. Vernon Ave. bounded by E. Howell and E. Windsor. Kids and their dogs are invited to participate in an Easter egg hunt. ACKC, Artfully Paper and Barkley Square are organizing the hunt with over 2000 eggs.   The eggs will be of two types– those for children with chocolate and a ticket and those for canine children with doggy treats in them and tickets. The tickets will be for prize drawings at the end of the hunt–some prizes being humans and others for our canine participants.


Bunny Bonanza– March 31, 10-1:00pm

Heritage Farm Museum, Sterling, Va- Learn about responsible pet ownership from the members of local animal organizations. Live animals, hands-on activities and demonstrations.  Bunny Bonanza is free with paid Museum admission. Bring a donation of canned pet food and receive one free child’s admission; one free admission per family


Upton Hill Easter egg Hunt, April 1, 2pm

Upton Hill, Arlington, VA- Official registration begins March 13th.  Participants must be at least 2 years of age to participate in the hunting.  Contact park director to register, John Sims — UptonHill@nvrpa.org.  The Easter Bunny will be there, as well as a moonbounce and crafts.


Bull Run Easter Egg Hunt, Apr 1 10am-11:30am

Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville, VA

Cost: $8 per child and is open to children ages 2 to 8 yrs

There is an Easter Egg hunt, crafts, games, and photos with the Easter Bunny.  Pictures with the Easter Bunny will be available for purchase for $5. Reservations are required.


Meadowside Nature Center Easter Egg Hunt– April 2, 10 am-3:30 pm

City of Fairfax/Chick-fil-A Egg Hunt– April 2, 2010

Fairfax, VA- Hunt for candy eggs and search for the eggs with tickets that can be turned in for prizes. Enjoy Chick-fil-A food and meet the Chick-fil-A cow.  Ages 2-3: 10am, Ages 4-5: 10:20am, Ages 6-7: 10:40am, Ages 8-9: 11am


Eggstravaganza at Tudor Place, April 3, 2010, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Tudor Place, Washington DC,- Enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Roll Contest, decorate festive eggs, and build a spring basket. Visitors also enjoy a self-guided tour of Tudor Place’s gardens. Town of Herndon Easter Egg Hunt, April 3, 10am-12:30pm

Herndon High School Front Lawn, Herndon,VA-  There is an Easter Egg Hunt with over 7,500 candy and toy-filled eggs hidden. You and your children can also visit Funland, which includes a magic show, petting zoo, and a moonbounce. The Easter Bunny will be available for photos.  $7-Advance/$9-On site


Rippon Lodge Egg Hunt, April 3  11am-2pm

Rippon Lodge Historic Site, Woodbridge, VA- An Easter Egg Hunt from the 18th century.  Children will hunt for eggs, play games, do crafts, and visit the Easter Bunny.  Admission includes a tour of Rippon Lodge and the gardens.  Each child will receive a goodie bag to take home.  $5 per child


Ben Lomond Egg Hunt, April 3 10am- 1pm

Ben Lomond Historic Site, Manassas, VA- Celebrate spring with crafts, games, entertainment, and egg hunts at Ben Lomond. Pictures with the Easter Bunny will be available for an additional fee.  $6 per child.

Lee-Fendall House Egg Hunt, April 3   10am-4pm

Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden, Alexandria VA- There will be two separate sessions for the hunt (10:30am and 1pm), and an area will be set up for kids under 3.  Reservations are required.  An Easter bunny will also be there.  $5 per child, free for adults  Call (703) 548-1789 for reservations.


Woodlawn Easter Egg Hunt, April 3  1:30-3pm

Easter Egg Hunts at Reston Zoo, April 3-4, 2010, 9 a.m – 4 p.m

Reston Zoo, Vienna VA- egg hunts per day at 11:15, 1:15, and 3:15. Go to Reston Zoo for an Easter Egg hunt- the child who finds the golden egg wins a prize.  There is also free face painting, and a small fee for pictures with the Easter Bunny and chicks, lambs, and bunnies.  The hunt is free with price of admission. Leesburg Animal Park Egg Hunts, Apil 3-4   2pm
