Saturday, November 27th


Truffle Making
10am-12am: The Sugar Cube, Alexandria, VA

A hands-on class where kids will create chocolate truffles.   Children will get to take home a recipe, as well as an apron and a personalized box of their handmade truffles.  Ages 8-12 years, and cost is $30 per child plus a $25 materials fee




Saturdays 2:00pm – 5:00pm (as well as Mondays: 6:30pm – 9:30pm & Wednesdays: 6:30pm – 9:30pm): Thomas Jefferson Community Center, Arlington

This sounds like a great low-cost way to spend time with your family and create something memorable!  You can create custom plates for gifts or for a special occassion.  The cost is $12 per plate, and plates are available for pick-up 1 week later.  Make a reservation by calling 703-228-5925. Toulouse on the Loose

11am – 1pm: Hooray 4 Books, Alexandria

Come hear Toulouse on the Loose! at a fun storytime, read by author, Kimberly Thompson.   Toulouse is a French turkey who travels to Washington, D.C., at Thanksgiving time. Ages 3 and up.



Saturday, November 27th & Sunday, November 28th

‘Tis the Season

7:30pm, Friday & Saturday, Sundays 1:30 and 3:00PM: The David M. Brown Planetarium, Arlington

This annual holiday favorite, where we learn how people throughout time dealt with the shortened days of winter.  This special show is through December 19th, and will be open over Thanksgiving weekend.



Fall Fun Scavenger Hunt

10am – 6p, Saturday & Sunday: Torpedo Factory Art Center, Alexandria

A fun activity for families!  The scavenger hunt allows families to check out the three-floor art center. Participants will learn about art history and about the art works.  It is also a great way to interact with the artists. Children will receive a small gist for participating, and the cost is free!



Mount Vernon by Candlelight
Friday, Saturday, & Sunday: 5:00 – 8:30pm: Mount Vernon Estate , Mount Vernon, VA

Led by “Mrs. Washington,” the event includes a candlelit tours, fireside Christmas caroling, hot cider, and cookies.  After the tour, enjoy holiday music and shopping until 9 p.m.  Cost $20 for adults and $14 for children 14 and under.
