Thursday, February 24th    Grimm’s Fairy Tales Storytime

4 – 4:45pm @ Long Branch Nature Center, Arlington

Celebrate Wilhelm Grimm’s birthday as they read some of the classic tales of Grimm’s Fairy Tales.  They will also learn about the history behind these classics.  Did you know that Snow White is now thought to be based on the real life of Countess Margarete, the daughter of German Count Philip IV von Waldeck-Wildungen?  She started a relationship with a young prince who would later become Phillip II of Spain, much to the dismay of her stepmother, who hated her, and Philip’s father, the King of Spain. They saw a possible marriage between Margarete and young Philip as having the potential of being politically inconvenient.  Thus, a plot was created to end the relationship in a violent manner.  Spanish agents poisoned the young 21 year-old woman, making it look like an illness.   Don’t worry, I truly doubt this will be covered in the event!  🙂  Read more at Suite101:  For more information on the storytime, call 703-228-6535. Registration Required.  Best for children ages 3 and up.
