Do you want to expose your kids to opera, but are terrified to bring them to an opera house for an adult performance?  Then, this is the opera for you!  Aurora Opera Theatre’s production, Beautybeast, is a great show for kids!  The opera is approximately 45 minutes and it is the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, but set to some of Mozart’s best known music, The Magic Flute and Marriage of Figaro.

It was written specifically for young audiences and will be sung in English.  According to their site, the goal of this performance is to introduce children to opera as an art form by enabling them to experience how all the elements of opera–singers, musicians, scenery, lighting, and costumes—are combined to bring a story to life on stage.

There are three school-day performances, March 1-3, at 10am.  These performances are open to the public, and are perfect for younger children.  Tickets are $5.  Contact Kelly Smith Jones, Director of Education and Outreach, (education@auroraopera.org) for information about the school day performance tickets.

In addition to the school day performances, there are also public performances- March 5th at 2pm & 4pm.  Adults are $12, Seniors are $10, and children 14 and under are $5.  Click here for tickets.

Beautybeast is by librettist/lyricist Amy Rosenberg Chartoff with music by W.A. Mozart.  According to the Opera Synopsis, Beautybeast is the story of a gentle, courageous girl who goes to live in the palace of a hideous beast in order to help her father to keep a promise. The beast helps beauty to learn that outward appearances are not as important as inner kindnesses, and magical transformations happen.
