Monday, May 9th    Family Bagging Night

6:30pm @  Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), Arlington

Family Bagging Nights are the second Monday of each month at 6:30pm. Families need to register to participate by emailing Family Bagging Nights are best for children ages 5-10. You and your kids will prepare grocery bags with four or five canned goods. It is an assembly line process and usually takes less than an hour.  I’ve heard that the kids have a great time doing it!

Tuesday, May 10th    Play at Bluemont Park

Anytime @ Bluemont Park, Arlington

This is a great newly remodeled playground!  There is a new tot and school age play area with farm and train equipment, climbing boulders, play house & swings, sandbox, picnic area, new site furnishings, accessible paths, drinking fountain, new landscaping and signs. It is all shaded, has grills and picnic tables close to the park, and a pavilion about 200 yards away from the playground.  There are new bathrooms between the pavilion and playground equipment.   Check out the Meanest Momma’s review of the park for more info.  Bluemont Park’s playground is just off Route 50 at the end of N. Manchester Street.

Wednesday, May 11th    Wild Ones: Migration Games

4 – 5pm @ Long Branch Nature Center, Arlington

Learn why birds migrate and where they go. The kids will get the chance to migrate and find out if they can make the flight.  Ages 6 -10.  Must register before, and cost is free.

Wednesday, May 11th    Civil War Discovery: Build a Fort

4 – 5pm @ Fort CF Smith Park, Arlington

You will learn how and why fortifications were built in Arlington in the Civil War. Then, using “Lincoln Logs” and dirt kids will design and build replica forts.  For more information call 703-243-4342. Meet at Fort C.F. Smith Park, 2411 N. 24th Street, Arlington.  Ages 6 – 9, and cost is $5.

Thursday, May 12th    Exploring Elephants

10:30 – 11:30am @ Long Branch Nature Center, Arlington

Preschoolers will learn about elephants in this highly interactive program to include stories, a craft, and a short hike.  For ages 3 – 5 years, and cost is $5.

Friday, May 13th    Goodnight Walk: Hop to It

7:30pm @ Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Annandale

Celebrate National Frog Jumping Day with a hop, skip and jump during their evening trail walk. Meet live amphibians including tadpoles, and enjoy a story that ends hoppily ever after.
