10am – 11am @ Long Branch Nature Center, Arlington

Join a park naturalist (and her child) into the woods.  You will load up your little one and head out on a moderate hike through the Long Branch and Glencarlyn parks to enjoy the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. The hike will conclude with some “down time” for the little ones to have some closer encounters with nature.  For families with children who can ride in a back pack.  Cost is $5 per child.

Tuesday, May 17th    Kids Craft Event: Make a Hope Book–Shirlington

4:30pm – 6pm @ Shirlington Branch Library, Arlington

Make a book at the Shirlington Branch inspired by the Buddhist prayer wheel.  Elementary-aged children are invited to explore the creative interpretation of a “book” in this fun project celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Children will make an origami one-sheet book and fill it with their hopes, wishes and promises. They can wear the book around their necks or hang in their rooms. Participants will also enjoy live Indian classical music performed by an Arlington father and son duo.  They will play the sitar and give live demonstrations about the instrument and Indian classical music.
